For those of you who are unfamiliar with the book, it is Bruce Sterling’s account of the government’s crackdown, under questionable pretenses, of computer hackers in the wake of a telephone system crash in 1990. The clandestine politics that informed the crackdown are intimately connected with the rise of the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation), which is chronicled in this book. The stories in this book are fascinating, and should be required reading for anyone with an interest in cyberculture, hacker politics, information law, copyfight, etc.
